The Ridge

Golf by Design was commissioned by Sutherland Shire Council to re master plan and thence design a new public golf course on a recently decommissioned landfill at Bardon Ridge in southern Sydney.

The replanning of the site was needed to resolve a myriad of safety and engineering issues leading to a much safer facility and substantial cost savings during construction.

Because of the near 2 million cubic metres of spoil needed to be relocated from the new landfill adjacent to the site, this commission took on a complexity that made simple cut to fill exercises pretty exacting. Ultimately the quantum of fill changed over time and to accommodate those changes GbD needed to constantly manipulate the designed landform without changes to the layout.

The course was completed nine holes at a time with the back nine completed and open in early 2013. The new course has been extremely well received by the golfing public with golf rounds played far exceeding Council expectations. This fact has led to the Council establishing a Club that now boasts in excess of 800 members and is the golfing ‘pride’ of the Sutherland Shire.
